I used My Law Matters (Fentiman Legal) as my solicitors during the purchase of my property. The process was marred with issues, poor communication, and unprofessionalism, topped off by an unhelpful and unapologetic complaints procedure. Avoid at all costs.

The complaints I raised with My Law Matters are as follows. All were deemed acceptable within the standards of the firm and thus no apology or compensation was offered. I've left the same list of complaints here for you to decide if this is the standard of service you would like to pay for.

1. My solicitor went on holiday during the process, and I was never informed, nor assured as to whether or not progress could be made on my case. I found out my solicitor was missing after talking to the estate agent of the property, who had complained of the process of purchasing slowing.

2. The contract for the sale of the property was riddled with errors when sent to me. My name written incorrectly, my address was incorrect - this was still incorrect after the first amendment, the price of the property was incorrect. After I pointed out the errors, I was asked to sign the contract anyway, and trust that my solicitor would amend the contract when it arrived. This was because the solicitors did not know how to change the PDF format document.

3. On the date set for completion, I was not contacted and told that the lender was not prepared to release funds. It was only after reaching out directly that I learnt of the issue. The lender was not prepared to release funds because of a change in the source of deposit. This change in the source of deposit was discussed over email with my solicitor three weeks prior to this date, and I decided to do so only on the recommendation that it would not complicate the process of purchase. Despite this, it meant that completion could not occur on the agreed upon date.

4. I never once was able to speak to my solicitor Ranjit Bhogal over the phone, despite calling the office on 14 separate occasions. Every time I was given an excuse such as 'in a meeting with clients / away from his desk / working on the matter at hand'.

5. The online progress tracker was rarely updated in a timely fashion and updates on progress had to be forced out over the phone. I was rarely ever contacted directly with updates of progress or issues encountered.

6. I was often assured that the documents I provided upon request were satisfactory, only to then receive further requests weeks after, causing more delays.

7. I have never received a direct and sincere apology at any stage for any for the meagre services provided, and the serious delays the were incurred at the responsibility of Fentiman Legal (My Law Matters).

The complaints procedure that I then followed was defensive, dismissive, and unhelpful.

My Law Matters were the source of all stresses during the process of buying and I now actively tell anyone I meet looking to buy to avoid them like the plague.

The incompetence of this firm allowed their client’s mortgage offer to expire 2 weeks prior to the agreed completion date. This resulted in the chain breaking down costing myself, removal fees, admin fees, the stress of having to move everything back to my house at time when mortgages have become difficult. So this firm has cost their client, their client’s seller and myself money due to simply not realising the expiration date of the mortgage. I was originally inundated with viewings and offers - now not a single viewing in 3 weeks due to their incompetence. Thanks SM, you may have cost me a lot more than just the sale of my house. Honesty, a basic requirement is knowing your clients mortgage offer dates. Having so much notice to not realise your working to a completion date after the mortgage offer expires. Date of experience 30/09/22

Why have I got to give it 1 star. It deserves 0. Awful!! I wish I read the previous reviews as they are completely true!! We began our process in February and we are still yet to complete. It’s nearly July. There is no chain at all. Ranjit our solicitor is never available to speak too and we have been delayed and patronised during this process. “It just takes time, unfortunately this process has not caught up with the modern day”.

After months of waiting my partner decided to call daily to chase up progress, this made them progress a little quicker however, only conversation with assistant and still extremely slow.

Additionally I asked for fees that I will have to pay. They could not give me an amount only providing approximate fee for solicitor and mentioned other fees which a price could not be provided. This seemed extremely odd to me?

This is just a brief overview of the poor service that we have experienced from this company and is a shame I know I still have to pay the fees just to get it over and done with.

Appalling from the start.

Where do I begin our experience with this arrogant buisness. Let me see oh yes if anyone thinking of employing the services offered on this companies website then spend your money more wisely. Never ever have I dealt with a company whose employees are blatantly ignorant, untrained in customer service, being quite happy in letting its clients do the work that the company are hired for. There maybe a method in their thinking that if they do not answer your calls do not respond to your emails that you will give up and go away. From top to bottom of this firm its thoughts are to be patronising/condescending to its clients and yes My law matters i do understand those 2 words... So please potential clients of this awful company read all the reviews and if after you do this you need more convincing then by all means hire them at your peril. Absolutely terrible company and work force.

The way that this solicitor has dealt with registering a property with the Land Registry has been one delay after another. One delay of several months caused by not being able to trace the payment I made despite repeated calls, they never seem proactive and often have long waits (25 mins and longer) for them to answer the phone when no response to emails. Progress only when I contact the Land Registry myself and even then they don’t respond for 18 days to the Land Registry request for further information/questions.
