Inviting place with room for people to have a drink without eating, which is great to see. We shared the crab fondue and salt/pepper squid, followed by fish pie and beef burger. I asked for the bread and butter pudding, whilst mentioning to the waitress that I find it difficult to get puddings served with custard, no worries she said and brought creme anglaise. Nothing at all to complain about and all to recommend.

Extensive gf menu and a lovely warm fire in winter - very cosy pub.

Fish and chips (gf) were decent.

£22 Sunday roast was very disappointing, as mentioned to the staff.
Two small, thin, overcooked pieces of beef - not pink as per menu. Everything else microwaved, pieces of cling film still on dishes - potatos and Yorkshire puddings not fresh out the oven.

We had a warm welcome and even with our dog we were made to feel very comfortable. The staff were friendly and attentive, and the menu a vast improvement on a few years ago after the pub first changed hands. It felt personal and inviting, intimate and cosy with a great menu to choose from. The food was great, really delicious, and we're really looking forward to visiting again next time we're in Salcombe.

Thank you for a wonderful evening last week!

We walked in at the bustling and characterful Victoria Inn at 6.30pm and were very pleased to get a table for two - half an hour later it was completely full. Seated and served by Katie who was just great, never too busy to ask how everything was. I had catch of the day which was a plaice - it is a long time since I had such a fresh and beautifully cooked fish. Merlot and alcohol free G+T both lovely too. Finished with a nice dessert. Reasonable price too - could not have been better. Highly recommended.

We recently visited the Victoria for Sunday lunch. We have been regular visitors to Salcombe since the 1990s and have seen the pub go through many changes over the years, but always maintaining a great atmosphere and excellent food.

On arrival (in teeming rain!!) we were welcomed and offered a place at the bar, as we were early and our table was not quite ready. Staff were friendly and polite, and the fire was giving off some welcome heat to dry our coats.

Imagine our disappointment then, when our Sunday lunch was delivered - my wife's meal had only one small slice of beef and my chicken was not delivered as described on the menu - only one small chicken breast as opposed to a mix of dark and light meat. Admittedly very tasty, but a significantly smaller portion than on previous visits and a price which did not reflect what was brought out from the kitchen.

I raised this with the server, to be told that the chicken was mis-described on the menu, but that nothing could be done.

We then ordered the crumble for dessert, which was advertised with Creme Anglaise and ice cream. The dessert arrived without the ice cream and only a small helping of the CA, which left it very dry - I again raised this with the server and was told that the kitchen was working with "the wrong data sheet" for the meal and some ice cream was provided.

In fairness, our bill was discounted by the value of the desserts, we would have much preferred to have what we had ordered delivered correctly in the first place.

It is such a shame that this pub has fallen into the trap of being a "brewery pub" with menus set and managed by Head Office rather than being run as it was in previous years. Given the choice of several other, much better pubs in the village, sadly we are very unlikely to visit again.

Sorry Victoria Arms - you emailed me to ask me to complete a survey, so I have provided what I feel to be a fair reflection on our visit.

We had a wonderful meal for our family reunion. Food was great but it was the waiting staff that made it such an enjoyable evening. Maddie our lovely waitress was totally on top of our table requirements and attended to us with a friendly smile despite the chaotic demands from our group of ten. She was supported by Tara (I hope I’ve remembered the names right) who was equally helpful and charming and took a great photo for us! Thank you all. 🙂
