UK Probate was instructed many years ago to administer my Dads estate. During this time it transpired they were paying a bill which did not relate to my Dads Estate and we spent much time arguing to claw this money back.

UK Probate in my opinion seemed hostile. We instructed them on a fixed fee and given the transaction took over 3 years rather than the usual 9 months or so I feel they grew frustrated. I notice from their website they no longer off this kind of fix fee which I would suggest is acknowledgment that their business model in this regard simply didn’t work; potentially the cause of my hostile experience.

There was tax due back to the estate which was taking forever to return (several months). When I rang HMRC they said although they had received an initial request the case had been closed and there had been no chasing of them. This then led to me having to get back the tax myself. I expressed my frustration with Imogen, the head of UK Probate and she began shouting at me on the phone, I said I was recording the conversation as her conduct was unprofessional and she naturally become anxious from this and promptly hung up.

I am considering reaching out to Imogen’s regulator but found out she’s not actually a solicitor; nor does anyone or UK Probate seem to be regulated by anyone I recognise. Likely why these lower standards are allowed.

I would not instruct Imogen or UK probate at all. Go to an actual solicitor, especially if UK Probate isn’t offering a fixed fee to deal with all the probate administration.
