We visited for dinner on a Monday evening as there were a few other places open in Wooler or nearby villages. Initial impressions were that the bar area was a little rundown and in need of some TLC. Nonetheless, we decided to eat there and were most impressed with the service and especially the food. I enjoyed one of the best steak pies. I’ve had anywhere and my partner was very pleased with the fish and chips. In summary, then, excellent food and service, just lacking a little ambience.

An absolutely lovely place.
The staff are, like WOW! I don't think I've ever met such lovely awesome people in a Hotel, they were the most helpful, accommodating who go well above and beyond, Samantha even went well above and even further beyond. My granddaughters (2) birthday was the next day , so Samantha went to the local shop and bought them an Easter egg each and some chocolates, they were over the moon and so we're myself and my family. Just a few picky points, The showers in the rooms need serious attention, because of very poor water flow. Although the hotel is in keeping with it's tradition with its building, it needs tweaking to bring it into the 21st century, by installing USB ports in the hotel and rooms, although the food is excellent, the menu could do with expanding by adding more choices, and it would have been great to see black pudding and mushrooms on the breakfast menu. The Bar also needs a bigger choice of drinks. Apart from them, the Hotel itself is extremely clean and pleasant. 100% Definitely recommend a place to stay. So! To sum up.
Staff.. absolutely awesome, friendly and extremely helpful.
The Hotel, Great, pleasant and very clean.
Prices... Fair, inline with other Hotels, no complaints.
Food . Cooked to perfection.
The hotel is in a very quiet and quaint little town.
TIP..if you want to eat out, book early..only 4/5 places to eat in, and they get extremely busy.

Charming hotel, at the end of town. Built in the 1700s as a coaching inn, so don't expect the Holiday Inn. Clean rooms, comfy beds, could use some TLC though. Super service. Great supper. A nice place to stay for a day or two. Easy walking distance to town

The location is superb. A quiet little town with hills on the west side and 3 interesting places on the east side: Holy Island, Farne Islands (puffins!) and Bamburgh castle. It is 20 minutes drive to Scotland, a little town called Coldstream with a nice view of the valley and the bridge.
The hotel itself is old. Still using an actual key to open the room door. There's TV and tea/coffee in every room. The temperature of the shower was nearly impossible to set to medium. It's always either to hot or too cold. So we had to take a bath (not shower), where we could mix the hot and cold water. But the room was big, plenty of space. Nice bed too. Hence the 4 star for the room.
The breakfast room was nice. Old but nice, like an old English country house. The reception too, old but nice. Plenty of car park and a nice beer garden at the back.
The service was very good. Especially during breakfast. They were short staffed but the staff tried their very best to serve everybody well. It's full English breakfast, which was delicious.

Very dated and needs some TLC. Felt like stepping back to the 70s. Bedroom was clean but the TV was on its last legs and sockets were in short supply. We ate at Ad Gefrin which was marvellous. Service was friendly but the hotel needs investment.
