South Westminster Law Centre (SWLC) is an amazing initiative, which allows people that usually do not have a voice to be heard.
The work of the voluntaries that give their own time, to help the ones that for several reasons cannot afford to pay for legal help is something to be proud of.
The staff is friendly, understanding and very patient. Even when challenging situations arise the volunteers manage the situations, in a diplomatic and friendly manner and the issues are sort out very quickly.
South Westminster has helped me and my family on several occasions with different issues, that required the help of different lawyers and Elaine Vignoli always did her best, to allocate the right lawyer within the area of expertise required, to sort the issue that we were facing.
All the issues faced by me and my family were resolved, and even if at times the outcome although positive, was not exactly what we were expecting ( as sometimes we humans can have unrealistic expectations), we know for sure, that without the help of the SWLC and the lawyers involved, we wouldn’t even have a fighting chance, and therefore we are very grateful, for all the help given to us.
I honestly believe that SWLC gives me and lots of other people, the confidence that we need to fight for our rights. The right to be valued and treated as a human being, the right to education, proper housing, etc.
SWLC is an invaluable service that needs to continue, as lawyers and other voluntaries are doing an amazing job and changing the lives of hundreds of people for the better every year.

Philippa and her team at the South Westminster Legal Advice Centre provided an exceptional, expeditious and empathetic service.

I had been seeking legal advice for several months before being directed to this service. Having had trouble with a previous employer and being left without employment, I was not in the position to pay the standard deposit or consultation fee required by most law firms and experts.

After sending over a large number of documents to Philippa, she responded in less than a week with a very detailed and tailored response which detailed all my options and the legal difficulties I would likely experience going forward.

I was very impressed with the response I received, it was above and beyond the level of detail I had anticipated. It also showed the high level of care and compassion the volunteers at the centre have for the people they are helping.

Absolutely outstanding service from SWLAC. I was at my wits end as to what to do with a pending court case that threatened to reposses my home. Paperwork and costs were mounting at an alarming rate. My awful landlord/freeholder had instigated court proceedings against me falsely during the pandemic when I was unemployed and it was charging me £150 for every letter they sent me concerining the case and claiming legal costs of over £7,000. I did not know where to turn until I came across SWLAC. For TWO years Emmet from SWLAC was in constant touch with me, providing support, advice, professionaly writen/presented legal counter arguments to my landlord's legal team and after 2 long years I was able to come out of it the other end with a win and more importantly my sanity intact. The opposition tried to exploit and extort money from me at every turn with threats of ever increasing costs and charges. Thanks purely to the hard work of SWLAC they were thwarted. Nothing was too much trouble for Emmet. He read all my documents, sifted through pages and pages of legal gargon and provided eceptional arguments against the claimants that in the end the Judge supported and seved to dash the arguments presented against me by the other side. I honestly did not know how I would get through this and without SWLAC I would have crumbled and been faced with a bill of over £10,000 and the loss of my home. And SWLAC never asked for anything in return. I can not recomend them enough. Literaly they are Legal Angels. God bless them all. When I am back on my feet I'll be making a donation to their cause for sure.
