After initially researching how to write a will (on behalf of my brother) by reading the citizens advice help pages, I took their advice to search the Institution of professional Will writers (IPW) as they are approved by trading standards. The IPW site was easy to navigate and three Will writers were within my locale. I contacted each of them - in no particular order. One has never replied, the second replied to my message after two weeks and the third - Pete Dunn Wills and estate planning answered straight away. He very politely explained he was driving so I messaged him contact details and he called back within half an hour.
After briefly outlining what we needed, the importance of getting the will written sooner rather than later and my brothers request that I help him with it all, we arranged for a home consultation.
On the way to our first meeting Pete hit unexpected traffic but phoned immediately to inform us he might be a few minutes later than planned which I thought was professional and good manners.
Pete is thoroughly professional in his manner, the way he presents himself to others and in his preparation for the business he is conducting, both my brother and I found him very personable. He is easy to open up to about this very personal subject with a sympathetic understanding of the complexities of different family dynamics and the potential areas of a Will where conflict can arise.
After summarising our requests, Pete was able to put together an outline plan for the Will that included the use of Trusts for occupancy of the house for a defined period, legacies for the care of any pets as well as to minimise the estate exposure to inheritance tax that ultimately benefits all beneficiaries.
Pete was always mindful of the need to complete the Will in a timely but thorough manner and was in regular contact with both my brother and I so we all knew what stage we were at. He successfully navigated that tricky line between what my brother wished for, any ways to minimise potential conflict from the written Will, with what was both practical and legal.
The final Will was signed and witnessed approximately two-weeks after initial consultation without fanfare or surprises. A well thought out and considered document, precise in its construction but most of all satisfies my brother’s wishes and protects his beneficiaries’ interests.
From my experience I would recommend Pete Dunn Wills without hesitation, an excellent job for a fair price.
