This is just a public thank you to Paul for his help during the toughest part of my life. Paul's professional help and advice was always available and in plain English that even I could understand.

I can't thank Anita Bushell enough for all her help with a slightly tricky and unusual loan agreement. This lovely lady went above and beyond for me and made a stressful process less so with her calm reassurance and professionalism. Anita's expertise and dedication have far surpassed my expectations and I would wholeheartedly recommend her and Nicholsons Solicitors to anyone seeking legal support in the future.

We had previously retained Nicholsons for other legal matters and found them to be helpful, courteous and efficient, so they seemed a natural choice for the conveyancing on the sale of our UK property. This time, however, we found the personnel involved, and in particular the partner responsible, to be process-driven, offhand and unhelpful.

Our UK sale was funding the purchase of a property overseas, a fact we made clear from the outset, but the personnel involved were entirely uninterested in assisting us with our needs in this regard.

On the day we completed the sale, there was a long delay in our receiving the proceeds, which caused us to miss a cut-off time for an onward payment, (and a great deal of stress, wondering what had happened to a very large sum of money for some hours).

The partner concerned was dismissive, stating that she had done 'more than she was required to do' by checking with the company's bank when the payment had been made, telling us to take the issue up with our bank and refusing to help further.

While the conveyancing was handled efficiently enough, it was a poor client experience that does the firm no credit.

We re-engaged with the solicitors again after our late father passed away. The probate stage was not subject to the same long delays that my brother detailed with our late mother’s estate the previous year, but there were long periods of silence from the solicitors. We had failed to appreciate there could be a capital gains tax liability and the solicitors having made us aware of the situation seemed to want us to take the lead in resolving it rather than volunteering a solution. The final distribution was made from the estate and the estate closed, but I received no notification of this and was sitting on the funds for 2 weeks before I realised it, whilst my brother received written notification. We are grateful the 2 estates were dealt with in a professional and sensitive manner but found it difficult to judge how much we needed to be pushing them after the delays and cost of our previous engagement.

Steve Fordham was very helpful and professional today. He grasped my case very quickly and gave me reassurance and good advice. I am very grateful to him. It is an invaluable service at a very stressful time.

I used this firm twice to buy properties and they have always been excellent. They are very professional, trustworthy, precise, great communication, always acted in my best interest and in a timely manner. Would definitely use them again.

Deceitful, dishonest and disrespectful. Mucked up my first purchase and then before the second got off the ground sent a fraudulent letter from a person who did not work for them who knew absolutely nothing about it and was based in Swansea(!). Also increased the quote so much that I couldn't accept it. Oh but the lecture from Jade Tinney was the best bit. I would guess that Nicholsons was a respectable, respected firm but now have a couple of "loadsamoney" egocentrics running it who will run in into the ground.

UPDATE The solicitors were able to reach out to me. They explained cases that involve probate are taking longer than usual, several of the reasons were due to the current pandemic and that the Probate Registry has just changed their systems so they are not as efficient as in the past. “In normal circumstances the Probate Registry takes approximately 7 weeks to process probate applications but at this time they are taking months rather than weeks”. Furthermore, the Probate Registry are unable to update the solicitors compared to the past. Another element that was a factor was that banks have been slower when involved in a Grant of Probate, again the effect of the pandemic. The solicitor was conscious of the time involved and had to weight up the additional cost of following up on outstanding items they are waiting for from external agencies, yet, the solicitors were apologetic on hearing about the frustration due to the length of time involved and offered to reach out further. The solicitor did acknowledge the change of address of one of the executors too. UPDATE

Long drawn out experience encountered for an apparent straight forward probate case, a very slow turn around. Yes there was a will in place already. Coming up to six months and the legal fees still continue to be incurred. My relative now calls weekly to check on the progress and there does not seem to be any urgency to resolve the case, especially as the money and deeds are held with the solicitor so they will be guaranteed to be paid. My own experience of the solicitor is that I contacted them with a change of address and never received any acknowledgement not even an email.
