We used Gordon Brown law for our first time purchase conveyancing. I was skeptical after being referred by money supermarket, and reading the poor reviews.

Joanne Reid has been excellent throughout the process, and I never had any issues finding out what was going on. I've come to learn that no conveyancing solicitors will be without bad reviews, as the process is slow and you do need to call often, but I never waited more than 15 minutes to speak to someone, and their case workers have access to all the same information as the solicitors do.

You can book telephone appointments with your solicitor for the next day, and I used this to speak to Joanne on several occasions. She always took the time to break down exactly what was happening and what would happen next.

Louis was so great with everything! Whilst it took a bit to actually get going with the process, once we had started Louis was excellent! Communication was better than we had been told to expect and when we had a slight issue towards the end, Louis was there to reassure us 🙂 Truly a credit to the company! Now we've completed and have our first home and it's been a really positive journey so far!

This is my first negative review I have ever wrote. Was very disappointed with the lack of communication with Faith Crooks. Weeks of no check ins. The experience working with Gordon Brown absolutely did a number on my mental health. So bad, there was a chance being homeless in the process. And what happens when we mention this could happen? All of a sudden, our case gets resolved. One of the worst experiences. This company could have worked months quicker but instead left us wasting money due to their lack of work. Such a shame.

Do not use this solicitor firm!. Recommended through purple bricks who should take some responsibility for pushing the use of this inept company.
Sold my property in March 2024 and still not exchanged contracts W/C 2nd Dec. No complexities to the chain. Just useless staff.
We are supposed to be completing this week but Faith Crooks does not respond to emails in a timely manner. Does not answer the phone. Or if you do get through on the phone it’s to a receptionist who conveniently tells you that your case handler is away from their desk and you never get a call back.
Complete disgrace of a firm and someone really needs to look into how and why they are allowed to continue to practice in this way.
Avoid and use a reputable local company to look after your house sale

Unfortunately I was automatically given this firm of solicitors by my estate agent, otherwise I would have researched and seen the most dreadful reviews and stayed well away.

My experience of them was unprofessional and unreliable, my solicitor would not respond to my messages or emails to an important issue that needed resolving that ultimately was caused by her lack of communication, due diligence and care.

Would not ever use this firm again, and would very certainly never recommend.

Terrible experience - Avoid at all costs!

I had an awful experience using Gordon Brown Law for the purchase of my first home, particularly dealing with Caitlin Gray. If you're considering this firm, please look at their Google reviews and avoid making the mistake I did by relying on Trustpilot, as they delete negative feedback there.

From start to finish, the service was horrendous. Emails were left unanswered for weeks on end—sometimes over two weeks at a time. When I called, I was regularly on hold for over an hour, only to be told that my caseworker was either on lunch, on holiday, away from her desk, or unavailable. Over the course of seven months (in a no-chain purchase!), I only ever managed to speak to Caitlin once over the phone despite calling multiple times a week due to the incompetency and errors that plagued the process.

Caitlin constantly lost important paperwork, filled out documents incorrectly, and left things until the last minute. Both the estate agents and the seller's solicitors labelled her as unprofessional and unresponsive. As of today, she still hasn’t replied to my email, which has been sitting in her inbox for nearly three weeks, asking about the status of my documents from HM Land Registry.

One of the most stressful moments came on the day of completion when Caitlin failed to request our mortgage funds from Nationwide until the very last moment, forcing me to make a frantic call to the lender to beg them to release the funds in time. To make matters worse, she filled out paperwork incorrectly on the same day, which resulted in a fee from Nationwide that we were forced to pay. She even lied about the reason for the fee.

The entire process was delayed countless times because I, a first-time buyer, had to constantly check and correct basic errors, such as wrong purchase prices, that should have been caught by a competent solicitor. I even had to hand-deliver documents to their office multiple times because she lost them.

In short, this was a nightmare from start to finish. The lack of professionalism, constant errors, and complete disregard for communication made this process far more stressful than it ever needed to be. I strongly recommend avoiding Gordon Brown Law and finding a firm that actually cares about their clients.
