I am the treasurer for an Amateur radio association and a member sadly passed away two years ago but he left generous bequests to many charities and to us RAOTA. The solicitors handling his estate wanted to charge us what I thought was an unfair apportion of inheritance tax. I went to the Glossop Branch of Davis-Blank-Furniss [ Solicitors] and Ms Joanne Mercer agreed to act for us. Thanks to her efforts we finished up with thousands of pounds which I am sure we would not have obtained otherwise. I was considering using this firm for conveyancing. My experience from the start was extremely poor.

In a nutshell I received a quote and then some information, via phone, about what forms of identification would be acceptable. In suggesting a passport and driving licence I eas advised only a utilities bill would be scceptable. For various reasons I couldn’t provide the utility bill and wanted an explanation as to why what I had suggested would not suffice. My answer was basically “ computer says no”..

I’m a bit old fashioned and like to think people know why they are asking for, or refusing things. The person on the phone hung up one me. I rang her supervisor who advised they didn’t want me as a cluentX I asked if she had listened to the recording and what aspects of my behaviour she objected to. No, she hadn’t and couldn’t say.

Needless to say what I offered has been accepted by a different solicitor. Who are also much more aware of how to foster good relationships and image.
