Disgusting treatment at Cygnet Hospital, Godden Green. The Hospital Manager, Belinda Mawire, dismissed all of the serious concerns raised in a formal complaint and used wrongly recorded medical records. My relative was only seen once by the Psychiatrist, Matthew Debenham, during a 4 week admission. Matthew Debenham refused to speak with the nearest relative, would not allow the patient outside to get any fresh air for 4 weeks and forcibly injected the patient, with a long lasting injection with significant negative side effects, without any prior warning or discussion, when the patient was calm and already taking a medication orally. This is a clear VIOLATION of the patients rights under The Mental Health Act Code of Conduct 2015, which Matthew Debenham and the Hospital are legally required to abide by. Concerns raised about bullying by other patients on the ward where minimised/ignored by the nursing staff. Overall, my relative was treated more like a farm animal than a human being. If this kind of treatment had happened in a normal hospital they would have been sued or investigated. Management at the hospital is clearly inadequate and it should be shut down!

Its sad to say ,
'NOT ONE GLOVE FITS ALL ! '

My own experience, a journey to say the least.
Im thankful for my time there , although harsh at times, harsh enough to break me ready for the rebuild.

I lost my shit a few times .
Fact , anyone would!

98 % of my time was good.
But im disappointed in the 2 % of staff letting everyone else on the team down by being lazy.

Theirs one in every work place , making it hard for the ones that work hard, to pick up anothers slack .

Im thankful to nearly all the staff in there.
Seeing a broken system while doing their best to work in that broken system !

Its scary !

Too many staff to thank for professionalism.
For remembering why they chose this line of work and execute their position of care .
I applaud you . I am thankful for the sessions , the advice , the validation of my feelings, you are the ones that matter !
Thankyou .

One ultimate shout out to Ania .
Activities co ordinator and someone i wish treasure for ever.
Creativity is her genius, and I thank her for challenging my creative mind.

I have written. A series of poems for you and will send a few in soon .

Encouraging me every single time to find my passion again.

Please use my words to advocate for the ones who deserve decent home care as a first solution. Not a harsh intensive care that rips souls apart.
Youre among many. A hero.

The few that act busy while doing nothing , I've written the most amazing poem!
Boom.
Stop letting us all down .

Love you castle ward
Love you Oakwood and reception, catering and everyone who tret me like a human.

The 2 %
Shame , youre letting the reputation down !

BE IN IT , OR GO HOME!

MASSIVE LOVE GODDEN GREEN 💚
MASSIVE THANKS TO CASTLE, OAKWOOD !
RECEPTION, KITHCHEN , NURSES , CARE WORKERS AND HOUSE KEEPERS , MAINTENANCE , MANAGEMENT AND EVERYONE WHO FOUND ME COFFEE .

LOL
🏆Ania for the win !

This hospital was a waste of time money and resources. Drugs were pushed and no therapeutic intervention for emotions were examined. We were given false information about drugs as the chemical imbalance theory was pushed and I was adamant at the time that this was a myth and now the myth is busted
It’s time you all wake up and heal patients not through toxic drugs but through curative methods available from healers not dealers
Shut these institutions down
Learn about trauma informed healing as every label is a trauma response

Their compassionate staff, effective communication, and patient-centered approaches have created a safe and supportive environment for individuals to heal, regain independence and thrive in their everyday lives.

I am impressed by Castel ward's unwavering commitment to excellence and patient satisfaction. Here staff don't only listen but fulfill their words. Their dedication to delivering outstanding care has earned them a reputation as a leader in mental health services.

Was brought here after being in the 136 for days so was in dirty clothes. Was asked rudely by staff why I didn’t have any clothes with me. Was asked leading questions implying I had a personality disorder (I don’t). Ward round when I stated that my diagnosis isn’t eupd it’s actually bipolar dr Debenham said it was eupd (I had been there less than 24 hours) he knew nothing about me. When I stated that had been an mis diagnosis he said if I was bipolar why wasn’t I on a propper mood stabiliser (lamotrigine and aripiprazole are used as mood stabilisers) his attitude stunk. Staff recorded inaccurate notes about me and checks were not always done. Most staff were rude one member was mocking me for crying. I was taken off section and discharged after less than a week and was then re sectioned a week later thankfully sent to a better hospital that time.

Amazing Staff team , Amazing Facilities,
Nurses care for their patients Adequatly,They are patient ,Loving And accomadating, lovely people to work alongside. I spent time here ,And My treatment and care plan Got me back into the community after only 28, Days despite being told that I am one of the most complex cases They have ever seen. The staff work in unity and It was such a pleasant experience being surrounded by so many kind women and gentlemen. There are 6 members of staff that need exhaultinate praise ,That would Be first Sandra, Than Selena whom took the time and patience to Listen to the patients stories with kindness and No judgement, than There is Princess and Francesca and elizabeth whom brought so much Love and Joy caring for their patients. Than there is steve whom was very patient and Kind ,Despite having a hot drink poured over by him by a patient. Last but Not least Friday whom was Absolutely Amazing !He was always kind ,Respectable,Filled with amazing Advice , and So calm and kind And Brought so much Joy to the ward. Not forgetting Our 2 amazing students .
Dr Williams, a man whom would take the time to fullfill his patients requests and Would Always be ready to awnser any questions and Facilitie and preserve our dignity and human rights. All of the staff were amazing And Castle ward should really be appraised for the Great work they do for those whom struggle servery with their mental health conditions. I have Visted many hospitals ,But I can truly say by my own expertise. This hospital treated their patients with patience ,Love , and It was like visiting a 5 star hotel.

Do not allow your children to go here! I was a patient here for over 3 months and my experience here was appalling. My therapist Dave was awful and made me feel horrible after every session, and nothing was done when I continuously requested a new therapist. My Doctor was awful and refused to change my antidepressant even after 2 months of being one them and I felt it was really not working. All they do is drug you up- there was one girl who was on so much medicated she was drawling and had to have other patients feed her- she was not like that when she arrived at the unit.
I witnessed patients being carried into the deescalation room screaming and crying and were then injected (this happened multiple times a day to some patients). They were not given support and care, instead constantly restrained and injected.
One night in particular police were called. They were extremely rude, aggressive and patronising, and ended up restraining about 4 patients and tying up their legs and handcuffing them. They were very rough and hurt patients, and then left them tied up on the floor for about an hour-most of them crying. This was very distressing to watch but at this point I think I was used to these things happening.
Self harm was badly dealt with, there were so many blades and sharps taken into the unit. One patients badly cut themselves and the blade was left in there room still with the blade even after they were aware of this!!
Staff were unfriendly, unprofessional and gave little support. One patient was having a psychotic episode and I, as a patient, was left to deal with them!
I was given the wrong medication which I swallowed, and from then on I made sure to check what I was being given and kept being given the wrong doses.
As it is an acute unit, they care more about getting patients out rather than assessing their actual needs and safety.
Its an absolute joke and needs to be shut down! Many patients I am still in contact with are writing complains because they experienced the same awful treatment I have.
Please don't send you children here.

Rang up regarding a family member who’s recently been made a patient at this hospital. I havnt spoken to her for weeks since she’s been sectioned and just wanted to see if I could get an overall update. The family member has not given permission for me to recieve updates she told me which I understood. I asked, even though I was next of kin? She then was extremely rude and obnoxious, said what am I supposed to update you on even if there was an update, she hasn’t done anything, she is in her room, what would you like me to say but with a horrible tone and attitude. I appreciate and understand she hasn’t given permission but when I ask a harmless question I don’t appreciate being spoken to the way she spoke to me.
