Mr Ian Brazier was unfortunately appointed as much duty solicitor during a very difficult period In my life.
After spending the weekend in weymouth police cells Ian represented me at poole magistrates on the bank holiday monday where my application for bail was made. I explained i felt the need to contact my family in order to find an address to be bailed to as i was not permitted to be in Dorset or reside at my address. Ian told me outright this was not nessecary and that I would not be remanded and would not be sent to prison. However this was not the case. I was sent to HMP winchester because of Ians unwillingness to do what he was paid to do and spend extra time on that day speaking to my family and arranging a bail address for me. It doesn't end there sadly.
For 4 weeks Ian would tell me I was being bailed that week. Ian would go 4 or 5 days without any contact with me or accepting calls. He repeatedly told me to call at set agreed times and dates and would not answer.
On the day my bail application was heard and accepted Ian was asked to call my brother in law who's address in Wales over 150 miles away I was being bailed too to make him aware I was granted bail and would be arriving at his address. This was not done.
A week later I was due to appear at bournmouth crown court. However my bail conditions stated I was not to enter Dorset. Ian for the week prior to court was repeatedly asked for advice regarding where I stand on attending. I was left with the choice of either failing to attend court or breaching my bail conditions to attend. My court date was Thursday 22nd June on Monday 19th of Ian replied only stating he was away and no further explanation. I had to seek legal advice else where in which I was advised making sure I attended court would take precedence over my bail conditions. On Wednesday 21st June I travelled to dorset and booked a hotel in order to attend court and be on time the following day. Once I arrived in Dorset the day before court Ian got back to me to state I could appear via video link from Wales this of course was of little use to me now I was in Dorset in preparation for court the following day.
Ians communication from start to finish was abysmal. On the rare occasions Ian would answer the phone he would refuse to answer simple questions or state he was feeling wooly (what ever that means?). I was told at one point my bail could either be varied or my application for my case to be dismissed could be submitted it was one or the other. This was not the case.
Bail condition variation applications were late being made despite almost 2 weeks notice. I constantly had to chase Ian for responses and updates.
When my case was finally heard to be dismissed Ian informed me this was just a formality and my case essentially had been dropped already and that I would not need to attend court or appear via video link. Unfortunately once again is either incompetent or being intentlly misleading as 15 minutes before my case was heard Ian informed me I would have to appear via video link.
If your considering using Ian to represent you I would strongly suggest you avoid. In my experience Ian feels he is doing you a favour doing any work on your case at all, stating to me at one point suggesting he was not being paid enough for the work he does. He also has little respect for his other clients talking to me about a current case he is working on with Albanian drug smugglers. Why he felt the need to divulge this information I'm not sure and I question whether it breaches any non disclosure agreements.
I am entitled to reimbursement of my costs now my case has been dismissed and I was found not guilty. These were submitted to Ian a week ago and he will not respond to confirm they have been submitted.
By using his "services" you are leaving your life in the hands of a man who feels the work he does is underpaid and adgusts his work ethic to reflect what he feels he should be doing for the money he earns. Is incompetent. Or is a megalomaniac.
