We have just completed a purchase of a new property. Ash from Alexander JLO provided excellent conveyancing service. It was an extremely fast process with full of unexpected anomalies and last minute completion issues. Ash was extremely helpful in navigating us through all aspects of the purchase, remaining calm and highly responsive to our many questions and concerns. Ash was always available at the end of the phone which helped us immensely. We would highly recommend Alexander JLO, and in particular Ash, for a first-class service in property conveyancing.

Currently at day 144 of a simple cash payment for a shared ownership property. Still not completed. Nazish is supposedly handling this. I’ve chased at least 10 times, corrected them, sent documents multiple times, chased them to follow up, even contacted the Halifax and provided details they completely ignored and then after finally making an effort admitted I was correct. Utterly unprofessional, utterly useless. DO NOT USE or be seduced by the website. I’ve never experienced a service this bad from any solicitor or conveyancing company. Last one took 6 weeks and involved remortgaging.

Alexander JLO , They are amazing, I can say that they are without a doubt the best solicitors I have ever worked with. Mr Ash and Mr Boray did a terrific job. One more time specially thanks to Ash he invited me to the office and we did extra paper works even his time was limited and has done completion and everything in just one business day that was amazing. The purchasing process went flawlessly and they guided us very well. They answered the phone whenever I called. I thank them very much and appreciate for everything.
Thank you

I went with Alexander JLO as they weren't the most expensive, but they also weren't the cheapest. The reviews seemed ok and there were lots of them. This was a mistake - using them for a shared ownership purchase was an infuriating experience.

1. Poor communication: They barely respond to questions and ignore most requests. You only hear from them if you constantly chase them, which is pretty crazy for a company whose job it is (and you pay them a lot for) is to communicate. Nothing is explained to you.

Even just small basic things like they emailed me a bunch of documents to fill in:

1. Report on Title.
2. Contract with attached Rider.
3. Licence to Assign.
4. HM Land Registry Transfer in Form TR1.
5. Memorandum of Staircasing.
6. Mortgage Information Sheet.
7. Mortgage Deed.
8. SDLT1

Are they attached numbered with filenames that match the request? No, they're named things like "DRAFT RETENTION RIDER". Oh, maybe that refers to requested document number 2? Not sure cos they've also sent one called "Draft Contract" so maybe that's number 2? I don't know because I'm a first time buyer and not a solicitor.

2. Zero urgency: Even when my broker tried to get involved to push things along, they couldn’t care less. They are completely immune to any pressure and make no effort to move things forward.

3. Rude and dismissive: When you manage to get through on the phone, it felt like a roulette for if I was going to get someone with attitude problem. It’s like they’re doing you a favor just by talking to you. One time a member of staff "A" was supposed to call me and didn't, I chased the next day and still couldn't get hold of them. I managed to speak to someone else and told them "A" hadn't contacted me, please could they get in touch. "A" eventually called me the next day with an attitude saying I should be careful who I say things to... Just bizarre.

4. Basic errors: They miss the most basic things, which is inexcusable for solicitors handling important transactions. One example is that they asked me to send things again that had already been provided months earlier - there seemed to be no internal coordination. Constantly spelled my name wrong in emails and documents even though it's right there in every single email I sent to them.

5. Disorganised: My point of contact changed multiple times without warning, and everything was handled through a long, chaotic email chain. It’s a nightmare to keep track of anything. How are we still in 2024 doing everything over email? Use a proper website or an app with tracking and statuses and secure file uploads. They did have an app but...

6. Their app is useless: They offer an app to "help with the process," but it barely works. It’s supposed to link to your bank accounts for proof of funds, I guess using the Open Banking APIs but I had to send statements manually anyway when it failed for most of my accounts.

When I asked for help with the app, they told me to call app support, which was a different company because they couldn't do anything about it. Oh okay.

The case progress indicator never updated past the first few steps. Even now months after everything was completed, the app still says the case is pending with 7 out of 9 steps unfinished.

It gives outdated information. My "client care" contact changed multiple times, but the app never updated to show the changes.

The to-do list was pointless. Six months into the process (and even now months after completion) it was still literally just says "Before we get started on your transaction, we need you to complete the below items: £500 payment"—even though I’d done that right at the start!

I honestly can’t believe how bad this experience was and I know I'm not the only one who encountered this. I did speak to the odd person here or there who was actually helpful (so not quite 1-star) but it was rare. The stress, the delays, the rudeness after paying thousands to them...avoid.

Update: I had a response here 5 months ago saying they'd contact me to discuss this but never did.
