I started to need glasses about 40 years ago, and moved from bi-focal to polyfocal lenses fairly early on. My glasses lead a hard life, made worse by not having learned their proper care and maintenance when I was young. I'm an engineer, so I 'did' optics as a student... so many chains employ nice people who clearly took no interest in the technical aspect.
I find that chain opticians are no better than an online provider like Glasses Direct combined with a prescription from Boots, and that the technical support online was often better-informed.
Then I was recommended to try Billsons in Linton . . . .
OK, not so convenient for a visit during a shopping trip to Cambridge, but well worth the effort to visit Linton - and Billsons is only a few doors away from Linton's legendary Dog & Duck pub!
So reassuring to find that one's optician also uses polyfocal lenses and (of course) knows all the ins and outs as well as the pros & cons of all the polyfocal offerings! Not been lucky enough to find this level of expertise before.
If you need glasses, this is a great place to go, they know exactly what they are doing - a higher level than the average place.
If you use (or intend to try) Polyfocal lenses, Billsons is the best opticians I have encountered in all my life. Excellent!
My new (affordable) pair of glasses is outstanding, it's like having teenage vision again, I read the test card all the way to the end. Many thanks to all at Billsons!

Mr Billson changed my life! After years of wearing glasses for various prescriptions, I now have contact lenses! No glasses! Mr Billson couldn’t have been more helpful or insightful. He made the transition from glasses to lenses very very easy. And what a game changer it is. I’ve been to the high street chain opticians, but nothing beats the personal touch like you get at independents like these. If you read this, thank you again Mr Billson! I use to go to another optician outside of my village. I have found them far better than my original opticians. They are far better they do understand you even on a complicated prescription for your eyes. I would highly recommend that group of opticians but Linton to.
