Gwent Police appointed legal service, i had already been in custody (a near freezing cell without footwear) for 10 hours at this point, massively sleep deprived and on the verge of hypothermia, the lawyer did not ask about the incident and did not give legal advice, nor did he assist to get me expedited through the process, i was eventually released after 18 hours. The legal firm did not respond to repeated emails leaving me to believe i had been denied legal representation and i would be representing myself when i appeared at court, at the first opportunity to consult with a "court lawyer" i was told "you just plead guilty", the judge asked for my plea, i said "i have been advised by a court lawyer to plead guilty" this was accepted as a guilty plea and no further questions were asked. I was sentenced to a crime i did not commit despite there being evidence to the contrary... but this evidence was withheld by police services and being without legal assistance this was never brought forward to the court.... it was during proceedings that i discovered that the court lawyer that "advised" me to plead guilty was representing Gwent Police, and it seems i was represented by a legal firm that did not question me at any point, nor contact me in any way to ensure an adequate service was provided.... i learned a lot that day.
