The buyer for my property used this firm for their property sale service. I do not have a chain and the buyer was first time- it has taken over 5 months. I would not use these folks for a property sale as others have the same experience! It’s costing me lost of extra money because of their slowness.

I was going through a very difficult time in my life when I was falsely accused of assault & Coercion by my ex wife, I made a decision to go & see a solicitor & boy did I make the right decision picking Julie Skill what a good honest lady she is, she made me feel at ease with the situation, plus she saved me money, I can't praise Julie enough for her hard work & her honesty, if I ever need a solicitor again I would only go for Julie she is a credit to her profession & Elliot Mathers.

We used Elliott Mather for our first house 3 years or so ago, and I couldn't fault their service. The solicitor we had (Lisa I think) was great, she was very helpful and made our first purchase very easy and stress free.

Because of our previous experience, we used them again for the sale and purchase of our new home, however we didn't find the service as good this time around.

Replies to emails were slow, near impossible to get our solicitor on the phone and things were missed that incurred further charges. They failed to let us know when the completion did not go ahead, meaning we moved out of the house and put our belonging in storage which should have been for 3 days, but actually meant we didn't have our stuff for around 2 months.

We were virtually homeless for a period of time, which could have been avoided if our solicitor/estate agents had communicated with each other better.

After a very stressful 3 months or so, when we finally completed, they didn't manage to sort the equity out to be paid in to our bank - despite us needing to use it to pay for carpets being laid the next day. We paid £30 to rush the payment through so we could get the money on Monday, alas the payment didn't arrive in our bank until mid afternoon on Tuesday.

To make the situation worse, we were around 4-5k short because the solicitor had made an overpayment on what we owed to our mortgage and paid an early repayment charge 3.5k that wasn't due because we ported our mortgage. We had to spend time recovering the money because Elliot Mather claimed they weren't able to do it. Halifax confirmed Elliot Mather were at fault as they failed to tick the correct box on the form.

All in all, our most recent dealing with Elliot Mather was a shambles and has put us off ever considering using them again in the future. It's a shame, given our previous positive experience in buying our first home.

**EDIT - I contacted the representative from Elliot Mather who commented below, to discuss what they felt was misleading about my review. We have responded back with justification for every point they have argued and await their response as of 25/09/2023.

***By way of a further update - we have never received a response as of 30/07/2024, which seems appropriate to the level of service we came to expect.

I trusted Mr. Steve Brint to represent me, but instead, he did everything possible to undermine my case and jeopardize my future. During my court appearance, he made statements against me, his own client, which worsened the situation. A lawyer’s role is to protect their client, yet Mr. Brint seemed more aligned with the prosecution’s narrative rather than defending my rights.

He falsely claimed in court that I followed the victim in my car and filmed him,this was entirely untrue, and I have no idea where this claim originated. I believe he either deliberately misrepresented me or thought I wouldn’t understand what he was saying in court. Either way, it was a betrayal of trust, and his poor handling of my defense left me feeling completely abandoned.

In another instance, Mr. Brint said to the court that I had refused to fill out the census. He looked at the judge and added, “Like we all do, me, you, your honor,” as if to imply my refusal was part of a casual disregard for the law. This unnecessary comment did nothing to help my case and further harmed my defense.

The way he presented my case was weak and unprofessional, lacking the necessary preparation and attention to detail. His approach left me with no confidence in his ability to defend me properly. It felt as though he wasn’t on my side, and his actions only worsened the already difficult situation I was in.

If you're seeking a lawyer who will truly fight for you, I strongly recommend looking elsewhere. I do not recommend Steve Brint,his handling of my case was unprofessional, careless, and ultimately harmful to my defense.

I reached out to Elliot Mather after my support worker recommended them. That’s when I met my solicitor Laura Bell. Laura explained absolutely everything in ways that made the whole process easy to understand, She supported me emotionally but told me all the possible out comes and didn’t sugarcoat anything.

I personally had a very nice, quick and easy experience with Elliot Mather. I would also like to say another huge thank you to Laura for helping my family get to the happy place that we are in now!!
