We used Best solicitors in Sheffield as a recommendation from an estate agent to act as conveyancers for the sale of a deceased relatives property. We were the executors and dealt with Kerrie who was the conveyancer. This is our experience of dealing with Best solicitors.
My co executor had difficulty signing up on line for all the money laundering and client checks which seemed to irritate Kerrie and that was what probably got us off on the wrong foot to start with. Very luckily for us, the solicitor acting for the Estate ( definitely not connected to Best) took time out to go through it with her and get the forms completed. He did Kerries job for her.
We were asked to download an app in March , once we’d signed up to Best , to keep us up to date with all the lastest information and progress. Well, it was never updated from day one, right through to the end sale in October, despite the promise of the companies client care and attention.
Along the way we asked questions of Kerrie that weren’t always answered, she didn’t acknowledge emails we sent in reply. We sent documents asked for by return email, then a few months down the line, we were asked for them again as Kerrie said they couldn’t be found. Overall, Kerrie didn’t show the great customer care as promised. Luckily for us the other parties in the chain of sale were communicating regularly so we had our own progress reports.
We contacted the CEO and the Director of Residential Conveyancing twice by email to express our disappointment with the service and to ask why we weren’t afforded the same treatment as the clients who had left glowing reviews on their website. No response what so ever, so we take it as they’re not in the least bit concerned.
The upshot is, it seemed like that because their money is guaranteed once the sale is completed, they don’t need to bother. In our opinion and our experience of dealing with this firm, although they got a straight forward job done, Bests client care is below standard and their communication is poor. Look elsewhere, at least pay a firm who’s willing to treat all their clients with common courtesy.

Had meeting after liaising via email , they seemed happy to take the case on. Had several meetings cancelled to get the ball rolling, then totally ghosted me. No call back when I called the office and left a message, no email responses. Was dealing with something very urgent and was very disappointed with the lack of professionalism... Well Taylor and Emmet now have my business and couldn't be more happier with their work ethic.

Absolute joke, not professional organisation what so ever!
I filled in the enquiry online form and was ignored, after several weeks, still no response!
I called up and enquired about will writing on the telephone, I was booked an appointment for 2 weeks away, for a “free consultation”. The only thing the staff member told me in the “consultation” was the price, then just told me “I can go away and think about it”, I just had 2 weeks to think about it and now we’re supposed to be doing something about it! There was no guidance given on next steps, refused to answer any general questions like “how much time do you estimate this will take from me?” And how do we move forward.

It appears no information was passed from my first call to my second call, other than my phone number, rending the whole experience an overwhelming waste of time.

Horrifying and disgusting experience using the family solicitor for child access. I booked an appointment months notice in advance to travelling to Sheffield. I arrived for the meeting for the receptionist to bluntly tell me I won’t be seeing my solicitor as she’s not working. I responded that I have email correspondence and had flown escpecially from Belfast,
Northern Ireland. After the flapping, a junior appeared with a laptop with the solicitor on a voice call, she had “covid-19” in year 2024. If the meeting was

Of saved me hundreds of pounds travel and accommodation.
The advice what followed was a disgrace. It was given to me out of greed for long term monetary game. What sickened me the most was the solicitor basically advising me to admit to false allegations possibly incriminating and agree to supervised visitations, constantly saying “baby steps”.
She then told me she wouldn’t be attending the county judge meeting. At this point I dropped Best solicitors. I self represented and got what I was asking and fighting for within 2 months of going through the court. The advice given to me was a disgrace and also dangerous, given that many fathers have financially bankrupted themselves and took their own lives fighting such a sensitive, mentally exhausting process.
On self representing I recieved a phone call wanting to know the reasons why and it was all about Best solicitors not her representation, sharing the blame. I was told there would be a further bill to which I responded I sent the latest up to date bill weeks previous. When I asked for a breakdown of costs I received nothing.
Disgusted at what I experienced, at least Robin Hood wore a mask.

I used Best Solicitors 3 years ago when buying my first home. The process was slow, which I don't think was their fault at all but I did always get told the same stock phrase when I called them for an update which didn't help me understand why nothing seemed to be happening. Anyway, we got there in the end - however, I was sure I had transferred too much money to them for the purchase (I'd had to do it in several instalments due to banking app limits) but they told me I was wrong. Two years later they emailed to say I had overpaid £2000 and they returned it to me. This was very annoying but at least they did return it I guess!

I recently instructed them for my next purchase and it turns out they are no longer on the Barclays panel, which means you cannot use them if you are getting a mortgage from Barclays. I had no idea (I had a Barclays mortgage last time as well) and had already made my first payments to them and filled out loads of forms before my broker flagged it. They were initially very difficult in response and said they couldn't possibly tell customers the whole long list of which lenders approve them etc and that they couldn't return my money as it was already spent on checks and searches. I was not impressed with this as I had listed Barclays as my lender on my forms and they did not take payment to begin the searches until 3 days later so I felt they should have checked the forms first and told me that Barclays won't work with them any more. I instructed new solicitors, who offered to see if they could use any of the searches to save me paying for them a second time - when I then asked Best Solicitors which searches they had done, suddenly they agreed to refund all my money except for their onboarding fees (which is fair enough). So either they hadn't actually done any searches yet but were just going to keep my money OR they had, but then were embarrassed when I pointed out they should have checked my forms first so they refunded it anyway.

Either way, it has been a frustrating experience. I am grateful for the refund but wanted to flag the Barclays issue to future customers.

I am really pleased that I went with Best. Having previously bought a home and having a nightmare with solicitors i was a bit nervous. However, the service I received was amazing. The team were always quick to respond to email and if I rang the office they picked up fast and took my call and dealt with my queries then. I never had to chase someone for a phone call (which previously was a nightmare when i last bought!). They were quick to pull up issues and didn't let them go - potentially saving me quite a bit of money were they not raised! Bethan & Kerrie were both very friendly during the process too which made the whole process much more enjoyable. I would recommended this team to anyone looking for conveyancing and I would 100% use again. Thanks both!
