I need to update my will which was originally written by Burton and Co. I have phoned three times, each time I was told I would receive a call-back. Also I requested a consultation on their website. I have heard nothing from them so am now contacting other solicitors. Reading the other reviews it’s probably for the best but such a waste of my time.

Contacted them twice via their website with polite messages requesting a meeting to prepare my will and they couldn't even be bothered to reply to me! Rude and unprofessional. Thankfully, other legal firms are available in Lincoln and they have been extremely prompt in arranging a meeting. Very sad, as this is the firm my parents used when preparing their wills many years ago, and I wanted to use the same firm for mine. Oh well, their loss, not mine...

UPDATE FOLLOWING RESPONSE FROM BURTON & CO: I note your far faster response to my public review than to two separate attempts to contact you, as per my review, via your website. I did not request a 24 hour response to my query in my enquiry, I said I would only be in Lincoln for one day - that is not the same thing at all. And if you couldn't accept my request, you should have had the manners, professionalism and courtesy to respond to tell me that. Instead you do so in response to my 1* review, which stands. You are right in that I was never a client, that is why I contacted you via your website. Is that not normal for your practice? If not, what is the "Contact Us" page of your website actually for? My parents were, however, clients when they prepared their wills with you many years ago. It is sad that your standards of customer service have decreased from where they once were. And yes, your service to potential customers does need improving. Thank you for at least acknowledging that.

I strongly advise against using Burton & Co for Wills and Probate services. My experience dealing with Richard French over the probate of my grandmother’s estate has been nothing short of a nightmare. Over nearly a year:
Communication has been abysmal—dozens of phone calls ignored, staff always claiming he’s in meetings, and no call-backs.
Documents were handled incorrectly and left incomplete, forcing me to do my own research and fill in the missing details.
Constant uncertainty about whether HMRC paperwork was ever submitted, and zero updates on its status.
When I asked about their complaints procedure and ombudsman affiliation, they couldn’t provide a clear answer.
Richard French’s dismissive attitude at our initial meeting—where he refused to explain the probate process, calling it a “waste of his time”—set the tone for a completely unprofessional experience. If you’re looking for a solicitor who will actually keep you informed and help you navigate probate smoothly, go elsewhere.
Unfortunately, Burton & Co has turned what should be a straightforward legal process into an expensive source of stress and frustration. Based on my experience, avoid this firm at all costs.

Can only reiterate the other dreadful reviews. They really need specialist solicitors assessing case merits.. and preferably women who can offer an ounce of empathy.

Asked for a quote.
Received a response from Burton Law. 30/07
Instructed Burton Law to proceed. 31/07
Chased on 02/09 as heard nothing.
Then was quoted a different price. 04/09
Asked why the price increase 06/09.
Chased 18/09 as had no response.
Still heard nothing back.
If the customer service is this poor at the out set, I dread to think what it would be like further down the line 😬

All the work that was put in for my case and the amount of attention to detail was quite remarkable.Judith Brennan attended court every day for me even though the court was 100 miles from Lincoln she was first there and was as sharp as a pin and on point with everything.

Let's hope the service is as good as sounds. Mr French appeared to be knowledgeable and attentive. They are acting on behalf of ourselves and a friend so will update as time goes on.

Definitely NOT disability friendly! Really shocked to have been openly discriminated against by the solicitor handling a housing disrepair issue. Asking for reasonable adjustments while your landlord does quite extensive repairs (after not doing anything for two years), when you have multiple chronic health issues, is apparently obstructive and 'blocking' repairs...? If you do use Burton and Co, though, don't ask them any questions- they expect you to sign vague legal agreements presented by the other side, without even knowing exactly what it is you're agreeing to. Just agree to anything they say, sign anything they put in front of you, or they'll close your case before it's even resolved, leaving you with the mess.

Edit in response to your reply to me:- "your case was not handled differently because of any health conditions".... this is my point exactly. Requests for (very obvious) reasonable adjustments were labelled as obstructive, and I was treated as someone who was abled. This is my honest opinion based on my experiences with your firm. I think the public domain is exactly where we need to be having these discussions, especially as I did offer to discuss the matter with the solicitor handling my case, but he did not want any 'debate', so.... your decision.
