Regretfully we made the decision to use Paul Linton & Co solicitors to purchase our first home. They actually approached us via a local Facebook group saying they had availability (this should have been the first sign!). All the other solicitors that were recommended to us were too busy to take us on due to the reduction with the stamp duty, however Paul Linton and Co solicitors was available (second sign!). They made many mistakes along the way, from day 1 we were having to chase. We had to approach other solicitors who had a higher level of knowledge to get advice. We felt like we were practically doing the solicitors job and constantly had to tell them what to do. There were many things that they were not aware of when buying a property and didn’t give us the right information and documents. The estate agents we were working with also commented how they had never worked with someone as unprofessional as this. We finally exchanged 3-4 months after our original predicted date. We had to arrange the exchange with the seller and estate agents, our solicitor was no where to be seen. This was an extremely stressful time for us as our first baby was due and we were trying to move quickly while also taking on the majority of the work that you would be expecting your solicitor to do. The experience was even more stressful with their lack of knowledge and efficiency. Especially seeing as we were first time buyers there was no guidance or explanation for anything. The solicitors also did not make us aware of any extra charges (which breaks the Paul Linton T&C’s) until 2 months after we agreed to go ahead with a deed of variation. They then sent a complicated invoice for the work (not sure if the word ‘work’ can be used as a description for what they done!) which we paid straight away. We did make the mistake of not going through the invoice however we were struggling as first time parents and the stress of being kicked out of our rental we just trusted the solicitors to have got it right. Six weeks later we receive an email saying they had miscalculated and we owe them £850 and that we can ‘kindly’ pay in two instalments! (Bearing in mind this is now over the Christmas period!). We went back and forth hoping that as it was their mistake and after the awful service we had received from them they would waiver some of the cost due to goodwill however they would not do this and after sending us many threatening and intimidating emails they took us to court! I would advise to stay well clear of this place and go elsewhere!
