Deborah Heyden is by far the most unprofessional solicitor I have ever come across. Incompetent at best. Her firm were instructed by my ex husband in order to sell our former marital home. Myself and my former husband have had a financial remedy order in place, made through his previous solicitors, since 2015 which we were both satisfied with.
We exchanged contracts for the property on a Friday and at 6:30pm that evening she emailed me randomly saying she was now advising my ex husband re the previous order and had basically advised him to breach it? Which he foolishly did. Sending his family round to attempt to change the locks on her advice in order to obstruct the sale as I was to receive the proceeds as per the order.
From there we had a full week of absolute madness with her attempting to interpret the previous order, sealed by a judge, as poorly drafted and began to attempt to negotiate with my solicitor in order to reduce the amount it’d been ordered I was to receive.
We went around the houses (and back again) only to end up where we began but with further legal costs incurred to my ex husband for foolishly instructing her.
The buyer of the property was put through unnecessary stress, not knowing wether the house they’d thought they’d purchased would actually complete and even when it did she then held on to the proceeds for almost a week longer than the order had stated.
I feel there was a definite conflict of interest as ultimately she’d acted for me (in the sale of our home) and against me.
Her emails were shocking, quite amusing to be fair, amateur like. She seemed to take the whole situation very very personally indeed leading me to question her credentials. It was all rather embarrassing in that I got the amount we’d started with prior to her being instructed so the whole thing was pointless (other than being a money making exercise on her part) Thank god my solicitor actually had experience and dealt with her accordingly.
If you’re looking for an amateur, Debs is your woman.
